Ahoi Ashtami is a significant festival in North India. On the day of Ahoi Ashtami, most mothers keep a day long fast for the well-being of their kids. Ahoi Ashtami is celebrated on 8th day of the Krishna Paksha, dark fortnight of moon, during the Kartik month. On this day women fast the whole day and break the fast after worshipping the moon. Special food offerings are prepared that includes halwa, puri and chana. Followed by Ahoi Mata Katha and ends with Ahoi Mata Aarti.
